Description: “What is Modern?” is a lecture demonstration performance written and choreographed by Babs Case, which explores how to view and interpret modern dance. By explaining and demonstrating connections between elements of dance and elements of visual art, the program guides audience members to develop a deeper understanding of dance. Within the program, dancers relate shapes of the body to shapes in visual art, pathways through space to lines on a drawing, different qualities of movement to different textures, and emotions to colors. The program concludes with excerpts of Contemporary Dance Wyoming’s concert works choreographed by Artistic Director Babs Case.
