Teka Brock Band, May 25, 2012
Description: Music was always a hobby for Teka Brock until 2005 when she recorded her first five songs with legendary producer James William Guercio in Nashville, Tenn., on breaks from her job at a coal mine in Decker, Mont. Prior to that time, Teka had concentrated mainly on competing at area rodeos in Wyoming and Montana. For most of her life, she had opened the rodeos with the national anthem. For years, Teka had been looking for musicians who wanted to play the type of music she wanted to sing—country with a splash of southern rock and a twist of bluegrass. The band’s formation followed a route unique to Wyoming. Tom Lulias met Teka at a branding and he offered to back her at her first gig at the WYO Theater. Within just a few weeks the original band members fell into line. Today The Teka Brock Band proudly calls historic Sheridan, Wyo. home. Following a recent change in the line up the band now features Teka on guitar and vocals, Fred Serna on drums, Lulias on steel and dobro, Jarod Judd on bass, and Aaron Ashear on lead guitar. The debut album, Gringos was released in June 2010 at the Bozeman Trail Inn in Big Horn, Wyo., the site of The Teka Brock Band’s first paying gig. Founding member and bass player Judd penned seven of the 11 songs on the debut album. He continues to write new, original tunes for the band. Since forming the band in 2008 the TBB have opened for such acts as Blake Shelton, Lonestar, the Eli Young Band, Bucky Covington, Chuck Wicks and Jalan Crossland. Brock was also recently featured with Ronda Vincent and the Rage at the Sheridan WYO Theater. They have also had the honor of playing at The Mangy Moose in Jackson Hole, Wyo., the WYO Theater in Sheridan, and The Beacon Club in Casper, Wyo. They were the first band in history to be invited to play the historic Mint Bar in Sheridan. In 2009 and 2010 they had the honor of playing the historic Don King Days and in 2010 were invited to play the Northern Rodeo Association Finals in Billings, Mont and the legendary Miles City Bucking Horse Sale.
